187 Ride or Die

Game Overview

In order to become "top dog" of the game the player must race and defeat opponents through a variety of different stages all set in Los Angeles's infamous South Central region. The game's title comes from two phrases common in the subculture. 187 is the California Penal Code section that defines murder. It has come into general use among gangs in the United States as a synonym for murder, and this usage has passed into popular culture via gangsta rap. "Ride or die" is a combination of the phrases "ride it out" and "die trying", meaning one is willing to do anything even if it involves personal risk. If playing with another player, one can be the driver and the other can be the shooter. This can be done in the story and online mode. There are a variety of modes available to the player.

Big Mutha Truckers

Game Overview

Big Mutha Truckers is primarily a racing game, in the same vein as 18 Wheeler.  American Pro Trucker. Players spend the majority of their time on the road, navigating the highways between the game's six cities: Salt Sea City, Capital City, Greenback, Skeeter's Creek, Smokestack Heights, and Big Mutha Truckin' Incorporated. The player will earn most of their money through trade, shipping goods from cell phones to beer, with additional opportunities from mini-games and challenge races. Every city features three locations: a garage, a bar, and a store. The garage allowed players to repair damage, refuel, switch trailers to carry different kinds of cargo, buy upgrades to improve their rig, or design custom logos for their truck. In the bar the player can find tips on where to buy and sell certain cargo, and a loan shark. The store allows the player to buy and sell goods, with prices varying by town. When visiting Big Mutha Truckin' Incorporated, the bar and store are replaced by visits to Ma Jackson. On the road, the player can earn extra money by smashing other vehicles. This money can be multiplied through combos, or by hitting a vehicle with the trailer. If the player earns a high enough combo, he can make reward icons appear on the road. When collected, these icons can refuel the truck, repair damage, or offer a cash bonus. Law enforcement and biker gangs are both present in the game, and cause trouble for the player if they attack them by mistake. Any cop will pursue and capture a player, while bikers will attempt to shoot up the trailer, or even detach it from the truck. In either case, it is a significant blow to the player's cash. Every cop can be avoided with skilful driving, and bikers can be shaken away from the truck.

Big Mutha Truckers 2 Truck Me Harder

Bribe the jurors as you take the roll of Ma's cousin Jacob in a race to make money by trucking and trading. Drive and go almost everywhere at any time in a bigger environment than the original finding shortcuts and new towns to go trucking in. Trading is only a small part of the game and has been simplified to allow more time driving. Like the previous game, Big Mutha Truckers 2 follows Ma Jackson and her children in their exploits running a haulage company and trading goods to raise enough money to hire a lawyer to get 'Ma' off the hook for tax evasion. The game has the player driving between towns, purchasing goods for cheap and delivering them to a different town, where the price is higher, to make a profit. The game also includes side missions, where the player drives other vehicles such as an SUV or pickup truck.

BMX XXX

Game Overview

BMX XXX is a 2002 sports video game developed by Z Axis and published by Acclaim Entertainment under their AKA Acclaim label for the Xbox. While primarily a BMX based action sports title, the game places a distinct emphasis on off colour and sexual humour, and allows the player to create female characters that are fully topless. The game also features unlockable live action footage of real life strippers courtesy of Scores, a New York based strip club. BMX XXX began development in 2001 as a traditional entry in the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX series, and was announced as Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3. The executives of Z Axis and Acclaim influenced by a crowded action sports game market, a dire financial situation, and the commercial success of the Grand Theft Auto series decided to insert nudity and mature humour into the game to increase publicity and sales. Although Dave Mirra initially supported the pitched concept, his name was eventually dissociated from the title following its unveiling at E3. The development team members were displeased with the change in direction, with some attempting to distance themselves from the production.

Burnout

Game Overview

The main gameplay mode in Burnout is the Championship mode, which is a selection of events with three or four races in each. Here the player competes against three other cars on various courses styled on European and American locations. Each event gets harder and requires the player to use faster cars to reach first place. After completing each event, a Face Off challenge is unlocked which in turn unlocks a new car if won. Other modes include single race, time attack, and 2 Player. Single race is a mode where the player races against three opponents. In a time attack, the player must finish a lap in a certain amount of time. Each location is connected in "Sprints", so hypothetically one could drive from River City Paris and end up in Harbour Town the Costa del Sol in a matter of seconds. On completion of all the 'European' and 'American' events, two 'endurance' modes are unlocked, allowing the player to drive through both these locations in a single race, as well as the three American locations. Completing these can take between 15 and 20 minutes. Each location has a distinct collection of traffic that distinguishes one continent from the next; e.g. American taxi cabs versus European taxi cabs and so forth.

Burnout 2 Point of Impact

Game Overview

Burnout is a street racing game focused around speed and crashing. Unlike many games which focus on closed course driving, you get to drive through cities with real traffic and city infrastructure. Designers have built an entire city and surrounding areas, and implement the race courses throughout the county's streets. As a result, many times certain parts of race-courses interlace with other parts of other races. As well, instead of encouraging strategic driving and safe driving, Burnout strongly encourages offensive driving. Driving on the wrong side of the road, barely missing passing traffic, drifting, and jumps all add to your boost meter. Speed boosts and jumps aid your attempt to dive past buses, trucks, and anything else that gets in the way. The more offensive and dangerous your driving is, the more boost you get! The game also includes a "Crash" mode, in which the players earn points by causing damage to other vehicles. Crash mode is generally seen as the "puzzle" aspect of Burnout, as each scenario's vehicles are not randomised. This adds a layer of strategy, as well as trial and error, to determine which angle, speed, and point of impact is required to obtain maximum points. The points are given in cash dollars.

Burnout 3 Takedown

Game Overview

Burnout 3: Takedown is a racing video game with arcade style gameplay that emphasises dangerous and fast paced driving. The game features standard circuit races which take place on city streets populated with traffic. During a race, boost, which is earned by acts of reckless driving such as drifting around corners, near misses with traffic, and driving in oncoming lanes, can be used to rapidly increase a car's speed. Boost can be used immediately in Burnout 3, unlike previous Burnout games which required the boost meter to be full. The quickest method for earning boost is a Takedown, a central mechanic introduced in this instalment of the series. A Takedown involves shunting opposing vehicles until they crash. Each one fills the boost meter and can provide an additional boost segment, causing the meter to extend up to four times its initial size. Ramming opponents will cause them to behave more aggressively in return; their level of hostility is indicated by a coloured arrow above their vehicle. When the player crashes or is taken out by an opponent, boost is lost and a bonus boost segment is withdrawn. During the crash sequence, a slow motion mode called Impact Time can be activated. In Impact Time, the Aftertouch mechanic can be used to manoeuvre the wrecked car into an opponent to get a Takedown, which acts as recovery move by negating the penalty of crashing.

Burnout Revenge

Game Overview

Burnout Revenge is a racing game in which your desire for destruction is as important as your ability to reach the finish line. The sequel to Burnout 3 adds some new features such as detailed car damage, crash combos, and a meter that rewards vengeance on the road. Game modes run the range from pure racing to pure destruction on a handful of real-world locations, including Detroit and Rome. Burnout Revenge also supports online play for challenging other players. In Burnout Revenge, players compete in a range of racing game types with different aims. These take place within rush hour traffic and include circuit racing, Road Rage where players cause as many rivals to crash as possible within a time limit, or until the player's car is wrecked, Burning Lap a single-lap, single-racer time attack mode, Eliminator a circuit race where every thirty seconds, the last-placed racer's car is detonated; the race continues until only one racer is left, and Crash where the player is placed at a junction with the aim of accumulating as many "Crash Dollars" as possible. A new gameplay feature in Burnout Revenge is the ability to ram same way small to medium traffic, known as "traffic checking", propelling the rammed car forward; the event in which a "checked" car hits a rival is considered as a Traffic Takedown. Traffic checking is the focus of a new race type, Traffic Attack whereby a player must earn a set amount of Crash Dollars through checking traffic, which can be used later on.

You can roam freely, talk to other characters and accept race challenges to advance the story. The game also features an Arcade Menu that allows quick access to races unlocked from Story Mode as well as a VS. Mode where the player can compete head to head.
